What is a firewall? A firewall is a security feature that protects your computer (or entire home network) from unwanted Internet traffic, hacks, worms, and other potential attacks. Firewalls are designed to let good traffic reach your computer, while blocking the bad. Most firewalls can be set to different levels of security, from high (which restricts almost all Internet traffic) to low (which allows almost all Internet traffic). Firewalls are also often customizable, so you can set individual restrictions or access to Web sites depending on your use and preferences. Firewalls can be pre-installed on hardware, or added on to your computer with security software. Your Juno DSL modem has a built-in firewall, which you can configure through the settings interface at gateway.2wire.net.* This firewall is designed to work along with extra firewalls you can install from third-party programs, for added security. *Please note: you should never change your firewall settings unless you are certain of what you are doing, and what access you want to allow, as it could negatively impact your computer's security.
