Checking External Mail Accounts (Juno 5.0)

Adding an external email accounts

Linking to an external email account enables you to download and then read the email messages you receive at these accounts with Juno.

Before you can link to an external email account, you must add the account to Juno.

Note: To link to an external account, ensure that your other email account is accessible from the Internet with the POP3 protocol.

To add and configure an external email account:

  1. Go to the Options menu, point to Email Preferences, and click Link to External Email Accounts.
  2. In the Link to External Email Accounts box, click Add account.
  3. In the Add External Email Account box, type a short descriptive name for your external email account in the Account Name box. For example, School email or Dad's account.
  4. Under POP3 User Information, type the user name for your email account in the User Name box. Your user name is the name you use to log in to the server.
  5. Type the password you use to log in to the server in the Password box.
  6. To have Juno automatically enter your password, select the Remember my password check box. If this check box is cleared, you are asked to enter your password each time you check mail for this account.
  7. Under POP3 Server Information, type the host name of the mail server in the Server Name box. For example, if your ISP is anyhost.com, the mail server is usually mail.anyhost.com.
  8. Type the port number used by the POP3 server in the Port Number box. This is almost always 110, unless your service provider had told you otherwise.
  9. To delete from your other email account any messages you download to your computer, select the Delete messages from this account after downloading them check box. Clear this check box when you want to leave a copy of your downloaded message on your other email account's server.

This means that you can still access these messages when you access that account and is helpful if you check email with Juno from one location, but use another email program to read email from your office, school, or other location.

  1. To always check this account for email when you check your Juno email, select the Check for email in this account when downloading my Juno mail check box.

This means that each time you connect to Juno to get your new Juno email, Juno also checks this email account for mail as well. Clear this check box when you do not want Juno to check for mail from this account.

  1. Click OK.
  2. The Link to External Email Accounts window reappears and your new external email account appears in the Account list.
  3. Click Done to close the box.

Editing an external email account

You can edit an external email account if you need to update your account information.

  4. Click Done.

Enabling an external email account

After you add an external email account to Juno, you must ensure that it is enabled so that Juno knows to check it for mail.

To enable Juno to check your external email account for mail:

  1. Go to the Options menu, point to Email Preferences, and click Link to External Email Accounts.
  2. In the Link to External Email Accounts box, select the check box next the account you want to enable.

Disabling an external email account

When you want to temporarily stop checking an external email account for mail, you can unlink the account instead of deleting it. This way, you can always enable the account when you want to use it again.

To disable a specific external email account:

  1. Go to the Options menu, point to Email Preferences, and click Link to External Email Accounts.
  2. In the Link to External Email Accounts box, clear the check box next the account you want to disable.
  3. Click OK to close the window.

Tip: To unlink all external email accounts at the same time, select the Don't check for email in any of these accounts when downloading my Juno email check box.

Checking your external email account for mail

If you added and configured an external email account, you can check for mail in this account at the same time you check for your new Juno mail.

To check your external email account for mail:

  1. On the Read screen, click Get New Mail.

Juno dials and connects to download your new Juno mail and also checks your external email account.

Deleting messages from your external email account

When you check your external email account for mail with Juno, any messages you received at this account are downloaded to your computer. After these messages are downloaded, you can configure Juno to delete these messages from your other account's server. This means that the next time you use that account, the messages will no longer be there.

To delete messages from your external email account after download:

  1. Go to the Options menu, point to Email Preferences, and click Link to External Email Accounts.
  2. In the Link to External Email Accounts box, select your account from the Account list.
  3. Click Edit account.
  4. Select the Delete my messages from this account after downloading them check box.
  5. Clear this check box when you want to leave a copy of your downloaded message on your other email account's server.

This means that you can still access these messages when you access that account. This is helpful if you check email with Juno from one location, but use another email program to read email from your office, school, or other location.

  1. Click OK. The Link to External Email Account box appears.
  2. Click Done to close the screen.
