Common Connection Errors / Solutions

Failed Connecting to Juno (Juno 5.0)

Trouble connecting can have a number of different causes, some of which may have to do with your computer or modem and some with the Juno network or access numbers.

Let our new Connection Wizard pinpoint your problem!

The Juno Connection Wizard is our newest help tool. Download it today to identify and resolve many common issues that may prevent you from successfully connecting to the Internet.

To use the Juno Connection Wizard, you will need to have a Windows Operating System (other than Windows NT) running on your computer. If you cannot download the Juno Connection Wizard from your computer, simply download it onto a diskette from any computer with Internet access and then install it on the computer you would like to fix.

Click here to download the Connection Wizard.

Below is a list of steps you can take to troubleshoot this problem:

  • Check that your modem is on (if it is an external modem) and that it is securely connected to the phone jack and the computer. Reset the modem, either by turning it off and then on again (if it is an external modem), or by restarting your computer (if it is an internal one).

  • Make sure the phone line is available. If you have a dedicated modem line, plug a phone in to check whether there is a dial tone.

  • If your modem is external, then you may have trouble due to a faulty modem cable. Cables designed for use with modems support hardware flow control. If you suspect that your modem cable is faulty or incorrectly wired, try replacing it at your local computer store.

  • Verify that no other programs are currently using your modem (such as Web browsers, fax software, phone answering software, and online screen savers.) You can press Ctrl+Alt+Del to see what other programs are running. Exit any of these programs that may be running (don't just minimize them). Be especially careful to disable any fax or voice mail programs on your computer. If you are not sure how to do this, please consult the manual that came with your computer or with your communications software.

  • Make sure your access number setup is configured properly. (For example, you may need to dial a certain number to get an outside line or you may need to dial a 1 before the area code.) You should review your access number setup.

  • If Juno dials, but your connection "times out" (is disconnected after being idle for a certain amount of time) repeatedly, you may have to change your access numbers.

If you checked everything on this list and still have problems, you should attempt to connect again at a later time.

To review your access number setup in Juno 2.0 or later:

  1. Go to the Connection menu and select Access Number Setup and Selection.
  2. Review each screen to make sure your access numbers are set up to dial properly.

To update and change access numbers in Juno 2.0 or later:

  1. Go to the Connection menu and select Access Number Setup and Selection.
  2. Click Next on each of the dialing setup screens until you get to the Update Numbers screen.
  3. On the Update Numbers screen, click Get New Access Number List. Juno will dial a toll-free number to connect to its central computers and then download an up-to-date list of access numbers.
  4. After Juno has downloaded the latest access number list, click Next to select your new access numbers.
