Why can't I send or receive email? (Juno 5.0)

There may be several reasons why you are having difficulty sending or receiving email.

If you have Quicken 2000 installed on your computer, you will need to disable certain drivers, called Background Download Manager drivers, in order to send and receive email. Disabling these drivers will still allow you to transmit Quicken information.

To disable the Background Download Manage drivers in Quicken:

  1. Start Quicken.
  2. Go to the Edit menu, point to Options, and click Internet Options. A new window will appear.
  3. Press Alt+Shift+4.
  4. A message will appear confirming that you want to disable the Background Download Manager drivers. Click Yes and then click OK.
  5. Close Quicken.
  6. Restart your computer for this change to take effect.

After you restart your computer, you should be able to get and send Juno email. If the problem appears again, follow the procedure for disabling these drivers again.

If you do not have Quicken 2000 installed on your computer, your modem is probably not configured properly. Please use the following procedure to review your modem configuration.

If you are using an RPI modem without the proper drivers, you'll see an error message that mentions the "Rockwell Protocol Interface." If you purchased your modem separately from your computer, you should have also received the driver software on a floppy disk. If not, you should contact either your computer or modem manufacturer to obtain the drivers.

You can check for the following files on your computer to determine whether or not the RPI drivers are already installed on your system:

  • C:\Windows\System\rokrpish.vxd
  • C:\Windows\System\rokhook.vxd
  • C:\Windows\System\rokv42.vxd

If these files are somewhere else on your system, move them to the correct folder and restart the computer before trying again with Juno. Once you have the RPI drivers installed on your computer, you should be able to connect to Juno.

To review your modem configuration in Juno 3.0 or later:

  1. Go to the Connection menu and select Configure Modem.
  2. If you see your modem listed in the Modems list of the Configure Modems screen, select it and click OK. Juno is set to recognize and use your modem.
  3. If you do not see your modem, click Manage Modems.
  4. On the Modems Properties screen, click Add.
  5. Click Next to have Windows automatically detect your modem. If Windows can detect your modem, click OK and then click OK again to go back to Juno.
  6. If Windows cannot detect your modem, click Change.
  7. In the Manufacturers list, select the name of your modem manufacturer. If the manufacturer is not listed, select (Standard Modem Types) from the top of the list.
  8. In the Models list, select your modem model and click Next. If it is not listed, select the modem that is most similar to your modem.
  9. Select the port to use with your modem and click Next. If you are not sure which port your modem is on, select All ports to have Windows detect the correct one.
  10. Once your modem is successfully added, click Finish and click Close.

To review your modem configuration in Juno 2.0:

  1. Go to the Connection menu and select Modem Setup.
  2. Click Automatic Modem Setup to have Juno set up your modem automatically, or click Manual Modem Setup to set up your modem yourself.
