I use my Juno account on more than one computer. Why is my Address Book not the same on each computer? (Juno 5.0)

If you use your Juno account on more than one computer, you will find that your Address Book won't be the same on each computer. The reason for this is that your Address Book is stored in a file on your computer, not on Juno's central computers. So, for example, if you add your Mom's email address to your Address Book on your work computer, it will not be in your Address Book on your home computer because you added it only to the Address Book on your work computer.

If you want to have the same Address Book on every computer you use your Juno account on, you can copy and move your Address Book.

Please note that if you move an Address Book from one computer to another computer, the two Address Books do not merge; the Address Book you move to the other computer will completely replace the existing Address Book. You should make sure that you replace an old Address Book with a newer, more complete one.

Moving your Address Book in Juno 2.0, 3.0, or 4.0:

Each Juno account on your computer has its own USERxxxx folder. This USERxxxx folder stores your Address Book and also your email messages and folders. Before you can copy and then move your Address Book, you have to know the name and location of your USERxxxx folder. Once you have identified your USERxxxx folder's name and location, you can create a copy of your Address Book and then save it to a disk so that you can move it to another computer.

To find your USERxxxx folder:

  1. Click the Windows Start button, point to Programs, point to Juno, and then click Juno System Information.
  2. A text file will appear that contains information about your computer's resources and files that Juno needs to function. Scroll to the section labeled [Juno Users]. This section contains the name and location of the USERxxxx folders for each Juno account on your computer and will look like this:

    [Juno Users]
    username1=C:\Program Files\Juno\USER0000
    username2=C:\Program Files\Juno\USER0001
    username3=C:\Program Files\Juno\USER0002

  3. In this section, find the line of text that contains the user name for the account whose Address Book you want to back up. For example, the line could look like this: yourusername=C:\Program Files\Juno\USER0002. In this example, your USERxxxx folder name is USER0002 and it is located in the Juno subfolder of the Program Files folder on your computer.
  4. Write the location of your USERxxxx folder (which is the text after the equal sign) on a piece of paper. So, for the above example, you would write C:\Program Files\Juno\USER0002.

To save your Address Book to a disk:

  1. Make sure you exit Juno.
  2. Use My Computer or Windows Explorer to locate your USERxxxx folder on your computer. If you need to, refer to the location you previously wrote down.
  3. Open your USERxxxx folder. Included in your USERxxxx folder is a file called addrbook.nv. This file is your Address Book. Select the addrbook.nv file.
  4. Go to the Edit menu and select Copy.
  5. Insert a disk into your disk drive.
  6. Click the Windows Start button and click Run.
  7. In the Open box, type a:\ and click OK.
  8. In the window that appears, go to the Edit menu and select Paste to paste the addrbook.nv file you just copied. Your Address Book is now copied to a disk.

To move your Address Book to another computer:

  1. Make sure you exit Juno.
  2. Insert the disk that contains the copied Address Book file into the disk drive of your computer.
  3. Click the Windows Start button and click Run.
  4. In the Open box, type a:\ and click OK.
  5. In the window that appears, select the addrbook.nv file.
  6. Go to the Edit menu and select Copy.
  7. Locate your USERxxxx folder on this computer. If you need to, follow the previous procedure, "To find your USERxxxx folder." Please note, your USERxxxx folder name may not be the same on both computers.
  8. When you locate your USERxxxx folder, go to the Edit menu and select Paste to paste the addrbook.nv file into your USERxxxx folder.
  9. A window may appear asking if you want to replace the existing file. If you are sure that you want to replace your existing Address Book with the Address Book you saved, click Yes. Just remember, the two Address Books will not merge; the Address Book you move to the other computer will completely replace the existing Address Book.
