Unable to send or receive email with Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express after installing Norton Internet Security

After installing Norton Internet Security if you cannot send or receive email using Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, or if you see any one of the following error messages:

'Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity'

'The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server. (Account: , POP3 Server: Error Number:0x800ccc0f'

'XIMS: Outlook Express POP3, Error 0x800ccc0e, Socket Error 10061'

'The connection to the server has failed. Account: '', Server: '', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure (SSL): No, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E'
