Common Connection Errors / Solutions

Error - Phone book is missing or cannot be opened (RAS error 621) (Juno 5.0)

If you are having trouble connecting to the Web and receive this message, it is likely because Microsoft Dial-Up Networking is not installed or functioning properly on your computer

If you receive any of the following RAS errors:

Try shutting down and restarting your computer, then try connecting to the Web again.

If the error persists, you will have to uninstall and reinstall Dial-Up Networking. Please note, if you are currently using Dial-Up Networking with another program, such as fax software or software from another Internet service provider (ISP), you will need to reconfigure those programs after reinstalling Dial-Up Networking.

If you use Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and do not have administrator privileges, you will have to contact your system administrator to uninstall and reinstall Dial-Up Networking.

Dial-Up Networking is installed from your original Windows installation files, so please make sure you have your Windows installation files on disk or CD-ROM, or that they are backed up on your computer. If you deleted them from your computer or do not have them on disk or CD-ROM, you will not be able to reinstall Dial-Up Networking.


To uninstall Dial-Up Networking in Windows 95/98:

  1. Exit Juno and any other programs that may be running.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  3. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. On the Add/Remove Programs Properties screen, click the Windows Setup tab.
  5. In the Components list, double-click Communications.
  6. On the Communications screen, clear the Dial-Up Networking check box and click OK.
  7. On the Add/Remove Programs Properties screen, click OK. Dial-Up Networking will be uninstalled.
  8. After uninstallation is complete, restart your computer.

To reinstall Dial-Up Networking in Windows 95/98:

  1. Make sure that your Windows installation files are on disk, CD-ROM, or that they are backed up on your computer.
  2. Exit Juno and any other programs that may be running.
  3. Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  4. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  5. The Add/Remove Programs Properties screen will appear. Click the Windows Setup tab.
  6. In the Components list, double-click Communications.
  7. In the Communications window that appears, select the Dial -Up Networking check box.
  8. Click OK to close the Communications screen.
  9. On the Add/Remove Programs Properties screen, click OK. If the Windows distribution files are on your computer, installation will begin. If they are not on your computer, you will be prompted to insert your Windows installation disk or CD-ROM.
  10. After installation is complete, restart your computer and install TCP/IP (if it is not installed already).
