Error - We cannot connect to Juno's central computers because of temporary network problems (Juno 5.0)

This error message usually indicates a temporary problem with Juno's central computers or your access number. Please wait a few minutes and try again. If the problem persists, below are a list of steps you can take to troubleshoot this problem:

  • Try changing your access number and connecting again.

  • If you experience the same problem with several different access numbers, then your modem may not be configured properly. You should review your modem configuration.

  • Check what kind of modem you have. We have noticed compatibility issues with IBM Mwave modems and our access numbers. If you have this modem, you may need a software patch for Juno to work. Please contact visit IBM's Web site (see your modem manual for contact information) and ask for a copy of this patch.

  • If you are using an RPI modem without the proper drivers, you may see an error message that mentions the "Rockwell Protocol Interface." If you purchased your modem separately from your computer, you should have also received the driver software on a floppy disk. If not, you should contact either your computer or modem manufacturer to obtain the drivers.

You can check for the following files on your computer to determine whether or not the RPI drivers are already installed on your system:

    C:\Windows\System\rokrpish.vxd
    C:\Windows\System\rokhook.vxd
    C:\Windows\System\rokv42.vxd

If these files are somewhere else on your system, move them to the correct folder and restart the computer before trying again with Juno. Once you have the RPI drivers installed on your computer, you should be able to connect to Juno.

To update and change access numbers in Juno 2.0 or later:

  1. Go to the Connection menu and select Access Number Setup, then Selection.
  2. Click Next on each of the dialing set up screens until you get to the Update Numbers screen.
  3. On the Update Numbers screen, click Get New Access Number List. Juno will dial a toll-free number to connect to its central computers and then download an up-to-date list of access numbers.
  4. After Juno has downloaded the latest access number list, click Next to select your new access numbers.

To review your modem configuration in Juno 3.0 or later:

  1. Go to the Connection menu and select Configure Modem.
  2. On the Configure Modem screen, click Manage Modems.
  3. The Modems Properties screen will appear. Select the modem you use to connect to Juno and click Properties.
  4. On the Modem Properties screen that appears, review your modem's setting and make sure they are correct.

To review your modem configuration in Juno 2.0:

  1. Go to the Connection menu and select Modem Setup.
  2. Click Automatic Modem Setup to have Juno set up your modem automatically, or click Manual Modem Setup to set up your modem yourself.
